It is a custom here in Kuwait to add a quench of hot pepper tomato sauces, Tabasco, or chili to main dishes. Being a makbous, mareq or just beryani, hot chilli is always there.
Most of these sauces contain no fat and have no added calories to your meals. In fact, it has been shown that hot pepper boosts the metabolism (calories burning), and enhances the breakdown of fat to use for energy. Some people also find themselves eating fewer amounts once they start using chili sauces with their food but even though watching out your portions is necessary.
Adding tabasco sauce is a better substitute for other high fat toppings like cheese and mayonnaise.
