Eating disorders are weakening psychiatric illness characterized by a persistent disturbance of eating habits or weight control behaviors that result in impaired physical health and psychological functioning. The two most common disorders are Anorexia nervosa and bulimia nervosa.
Anorexia nervosa, Characterized by refusal to maintain a minimally normal body weight, intense fear of gaining weight and a loss of appetite.
Bulimia nervosa, characterized by repeated episodes of binge eating followed by inappropriate compensatory methods such as purging, including self-induced vomiting, misuse of laxatives or diuretics, or non-purging including fasting or engaging in excessive exercise.
